September Pest - Flying Ants

In the month of September, the pest to look out for is the Flying Ant. Flying Ants are ants that are sexually mature. A common flying ant is the Carpenter Ant. People commonly confuse the common Flying Ant and termites. Although Flying Ants might look like Termites, Flying Ants do not tend to destroy wood. Seeing Flying Ants in your home is not a good sign. Ants only fly or develop wings when they are mature enough to breed, so having them in your home is a good indication that there will be more to come. Carpenter Ants like to nest in wet, damp, or rotting wood. When dealing with a flying ant or Carpenter Ant infestation, the first step is to repair or replace the rotted wood to prevent future infestation. The next step is to use an insecticide to control and kill the ants that have built their nest indoors. Effective insecticides come in the form of dust, bait, or sprays.
