Illustrative commercial kitchen with clean stainless-steel work surfaces and organized food storage.

A commercial kitchen needs a pest plan built around daily operations. Deliveries, food storage, drains and waste areas create different inspection priorities, and monitoring helps the team respond to evidence between service visits.

Give staff a clear reporting process

Keep a simple sighting log with the date, location and description of activity. Photograph evidence when practical and tell the manager promptly. Record repeat observations near equipment, receiving doors and dry storage so the technician can focus the next inspection.

Coordinate cleaning and repairs

Include hard-to-reach grease and food residue, damaged containers, door gaps, leaks and waste storage in the review. Different fly species have different breeding sources; a drain should not be assumed to be the cause of every fly problem. Identify the pest before deciding on treatment.

Agree on service and documentation

Ask what monitoring, service records and follow-up are included. Confirm who handles cleaning, repairs and reporting, and how urgent activity should be escalated. Visit frequency should reflect the site and findings. Pest service supports your food-safety program but cannot guarantee a passing inspection or replace requirements from the relevant authority.

Plan around food operations

Discuss access, operating hours and any preparation needed to protect food, utensils and equipment. Use only products and methods appropriate for the setting and follow all label directions. The EPA’s integrated pest management principles explain how monitoring and prevention inform treatment decisions.
