Mosquito and Tick Prevention: Personal and Yard Steps
| Mar 25, 2024

Mosquito and tick prevention combines personal precautions with attention to the yard. Pest service may help manage the targeted pests, but it cannot guarantee that bites or illness will be prevented.
Use personal protection
Follow CDC guidance on appropriate repellents and protective clothing. Read the product directions carefully: a product intended for clothing is not necessarily suitable for skin. Mosquitoes can bite at different times of day, so do not rely only on avoiding dusk.
Check after outdoor activity
Check yourself, children, clothing and pets for ticks after time outdoors. Follow CDC tick-removal guidance if one is attached. Contact a healthcare professional about a concerning reaction or illness, and a veterinarian about pet protection.
Review the yard
- Empty or address standing water where practical.
- Maintain grass and reduce accumulated debris.
- Tell the technician where activity is most noticeable.
- Identify gardens, pet spaces, play areas and water features before treatment.
Ask Plank which pest the proposed service targets, what preparation is needed, when treated areas can be used and how follow-up is decided. Mosquito and tick services are not automatically the same treatment or package.
