Little Black Ant Identification and Property Tips

The little black ant is a named species, Monomorium minimum. Not every small dark ant belongs to this species.
Identification and habits
Workers are tiny and shiny dark ants. They can nest in soil or decaying wood; finding them near damaged wood does not establish that the ants caused the decay. Close identification is useful because several household ants look similar.
What to do at your property
Photograph trails and nearby food or moisture, store food securely and report recurring activity. Ask for identification before choosing a product. If wood is deteriorating, investigate the moisture or repair issue separately.
