House Fly Identification and Property Tips

House flies are a sanitation concern around food and waste. Prevention focuses on reducing breeding sources and limiting entry.

Identification and habits

Adults are gray with dark stripes behind the head. Larvae develop in suitable moist organic material, including waste. Flies can arrive from outside, so an indoor sighting does not locate the breeding source.

What to do at your property

Keep waste containers closed and clean, address spills and check screens and door gaps. Protect exposed food. Report recurring numbers and their location so inspection can focus on the source and access routes, not only the visible adult flies.
