Flesh Fly Identification and Property Tips

Flesh flies are larger gray flies that may occasionally appear indoors. Recurring numbers should prompt identification and a search for the source.

Identification and habits

They commonly have three dark lengthwise stripes on the midsection and a checkerboard pattern on the abdomen. These markings help distinguish them from house flies, but a clear specimen may be needed.

Note where flies appear and check accessible waste and sanitation areas. Report a sudden increase or suspected hidden source. A household sighting does not justify conclusions about disease or an unseen carcass without further evidence.
