Cluster flies may gather in sheltered building spaces for winter and later appear near windows. Their presence calls for a different approach from flies breeding in food waste.
Identification and habits
Adults are often sluggish indoors and have fine golden hairs on the midsection. They can enter through small exterior openings and shelter in inaccessible spaces.
What to do at your property
Record the rooms and time of year where activity occurs. Check screens and accessible exterior gaps, and discuss exclusion before the next entry season. Recurring indoor flies should be identified before assuming that sanitation or drain treatment will solve the problem.
