Bumblebees are important pollinators. Bees visiting flowers usually should be left alone rather than treated as a pest problem.

Identification and habits

Bumblebees have a fuzzy appearance, including the abdomen. Carpenter bees can look similar but typically have a smoother, shiny upper abdomen. Colors vary among bumblebee species.

What to do at your property

Observe without handling or disturbing a nest. If a nest conflicts with a doorway or frequently used area, request identification and discuss options appropriate to that location. A bee on a flower does not establish a nest in the building.
