Cricket Identification and Property Tips

Crickets are jumping insects that may wander into buildings or find shelter in damp, cluttered areas. Species identification helps explain whether the problem is occasional entry or persistent indoor activity.

Identification and habits

Long antennae and enlarged hind legs are useful clues. Field, house and camel crickets differ in appearance and habits; not every cricket chirps. The long rear projection on a female cricket is an egg-laying structure, not a stinger.

Check door sweeps and screens, reduce damp clutter and note where sightings repeat. A basement concentration calls for a moisture and entry review.
